We at SAECC are accustomed to dealing with illnesses in young children and routine cleanliness and are prepared to cope with any outbreak of the H1N1 virus this fall.  Because of the ages of the children in our care, St. Alban's definitely has a heightened sense of awareness at the start of the flu season.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued guidelines yesterday for 360,000 child care centers across the country, urging student vaccinations for both seasonal flu and H1N1, commonly known as swine flu.

The guidelines also emphasize the importance of keeping sick children at home.

"If your child comes down with the flu, we hope you plan to keep them home and not share this with their playmates," said U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. The CDC urged child care providers to be on the lookout for flu-like symptoms or other signs children might be getting ill, such as not playing normally. The agency advised the centers to separate sick children from others until they can be taken home.

Trying to keep SAECC free from germs is a routine part of regular maintenance.
